Playing with cards, II

I’ve found some nifty shortcuts on my Blackjack that I haven’t seen posted anywhere so I thought I’d list them here. I’m sure that seasoned Smartphone users will have heard of these, but they’re news to me. ;)

  • Pressing the Fn key and using the side scroll wheel scrolls sideways. This is reminiscent of using the shift+scroll wheel on a mouse in OS X scrolls sideways. Nice feature.
  • From the Home screen, you can start searching your address book by typing letters (or numbers). Very cool.
    • Related to this, when you’re at the selection screen, you’re shown both numbers from your address book and those from your recent calls. If you select one of the recent calls, it’ll give you details about that call.
  • While on a call, you can continue to use the phone as a PDA. No big surprise there, but you can go back to the “phone interface” quickly by pressing the green call button.
  • T9 input can be selected by going to the “Settings” screen and then going to the second screen and selecting “Text Input Mode”. I usually don’t like T9 and thought it’d be pointless with a QWERTY keyboard, but it’s been pretty useful.

I’ll continue to update this list with other features of my Samsung1

Footnotes:
  1. I think it’s weird that I’ll be reading about this phone or other Samsung products referred to as “Sammy”. I think people are talking about me!
